Young Horticulturist of the Year

Organised by the Institute of Horticulture, The Young Horticulturist of the Year 2008 first round heats will get under way very shortly, throughout the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland.  The competition is run in three phases: local heats, Branch Finals and the 2008 National Final, to be held at the Eden Project in Cornwall on May 3rd 2008.

MorePeople were involved with the Young Horticulturist of the Year during 2007 and are once again pleased to be sponsoring the regional heats for the 2008 competition.  The competition is open to anyone aged under 30 on 31st July 2008.  The heats are held in the eight IoH branches and take place at colleges or garden centres.  Heat winners go forward to one of eight local Branch Finals and the winner of each Branch Final then goes forward to the YHoY National Final.  The overall winner collects the Percy Thrower Travel Bursary, worth £2,000, provided by the Shropshire Horticultural Society.  This funds a horticultural tour anywhere in the world.  Previous YHoY winners have visited New Zealand, the Himalayas, the United States, South America and various parts of Europe.

Anyone interested in entering can contact MorePeople on 01780 480 530.  Alternatively entry details can be obtained from Erin Taylor of the IoH on 020 7245 6943.
